His legacy

A little-known heritage to discover

Some of them are ten centuries old, mills are part of the French landscape and hydrographic network. Originally built on our rivers to grind grain into flour, they accompanied the Industrial Revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries, providing the energy needed to power the machines and industries developed by and for humankind (forges, sawmills, weaving workshops, papermaking, etc.). Mills constitute the third most important part of France's heritage after castles and churches. Far beyond the motive power they provide, mills and their weirs along our rivers play a major role in the sound management of rivers and water resources: water retention, biodiversity refuge, replenishment of surface aquifers, purification and oxygenation of water, and flood mitigation. They also offer significant potential for energy development in the form of hydroelectricity, the cleanest renewable energy source.

A new chapter has been unfolding since 2018

It was in 2018 that Sabine and Jean-Luc fell under the spell of the Moulin de la Follaine.

Since then, they have been tirelessly keeping this piece of history alive in the heart of nature, ideally located amidst the Loire Valley châteaux.

Your hosts will be a wealth of information on all the technical and historical aspects of mills and the ingenuity our ancestors displayed during their construction.

We would be delighted to show you around the Moulin de la Follaine and answer all your questions.
